Katy’s Story
It is incredible to see the beautiful ways God weaves our stories. We often create plans of our own, only to realize that God’s way is completely different—yet it leads us to the same goal. Each twist and turn has a purpose, and every high and low draws us closer to Him.
Today, I want to share Katy’s story—a beautiful journey of one of our students here at Dare for More Guatemala. It’s a story of a woman guided by God along a path only He could direct.
Katy was first connected with Dare for More through our director, Mariajose, who invited her to join our workshop for the very first sewing training program. Katy came from a deeply impoverished village about 45 minutes from our training center. Although the distance was far, this was a huge opportunity for her. Her family made sacrifices to ensure she could attend.
Katy thrived in our sewing program, mastering all the skills in sewing. She had her hands in the very first products we created—beautiful items sold in the U.S. that launched this new part of Dare for More. These products laid the foundation for the thriving sales and store we have today, which helps fund everything we are now doing in Guatemala.
Throughout the year of training, we saw incredible promise in Katy. We knew we wanted to keep her on as a producer because of her dedication and talent. We also began to consider her as a leader for our next training center, which we were hopeful to begin in her village.
After her graduation, Katy remained in her village awaiting Dare for More’s next steps in opening a new training center. Although the need remains there today, Dare for More has not yet been able to fund this project. We had no idea the plan that God already had set in place.
Last year, that plan began to unfold in a way only He could orchestrate. When we began talking to Anita about Dare for More taking over the medical center, we had no idea it would lead us back to Katy.
Katy lives in one of the impoverished villages served by our medical clinic. She connected with Anita, who saw her potential and hired her to work at the clinic. When Dare for More assumed ownership of the clinic, we were overjoyed to have Katy back on our team—this time serving in a new capacity.
Today, Katy is thriving. She recently welcomed her first child into the world, and we are so grateful to see her flourishing both personally and professionally.
How amazing is our God to bring Katy’s story full circle? It’s not a story we could have written, but one crafted by His perfect hand—far more beautiful than anything we could imagine.
We are so blessed to have Katy on staff at our medical clinic, serving families in the very villages where she lives. We can’t wait to see all that God has in store for her and how He will continue moving in this community.
