Our Fight Song

Reflections from Psalm 150
Imagine walking into a football stadium on game day. The energy is electric. Fans are roaring, their cheers so deafening that the quarterback has to call a time-out because he can’t hear the play. Flags are waving, hands are raised, and excitement is palpable. Now, picture that same kind of passion, that same kind of exuberance—but not for a sports team. Imagine it directed toward the One who created you, the One who holds the universe in His hands, the One who is worthy of more praise than we could ever give.
That’s the heart of Psalm 150.
The book of Psalms ends on a high note, with a crescendo of praise that calls everything—and everyone—to join in. From Psalm 146 to 149, the theme has been building. It’s like a drumbeat growing louder and louder, the anticipation rising as the psalmist reminds us again and again: praise the Lord! By the time we reach Psalm 150, it’s clear—this is our purpose. This is why we were created.
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150:6). It’s a command, an invitation, and a reminder all wrapped into one. Praise is not just something we do in the good times; it’s a lifestyle. It’s what we were made for. Whether life is calm or chaotic, whether we’re on the mountaintop or in the valley, we were designed to lift our voices in praise to our Creator.
The psalmist doesn’t just stop at *who* should praise; he dives into *what* we should praise with. And here’s where it gets fun. Trumpets, harps, lyres, tambourines, dancing, strings, pipes, cymbals—*loud* clashing cymbals, at that! (Psalm 150:3-5). This isn’t quiet, reserved praise. It’s loud, boisterous, exciting, and full of life. It’s like a massive celebration where every sound, every movement, every breath is dedicated to God.
Think about that. The God who spoke the stars into existence deserves all the noise we can make. The Creator of heaven and earth is worthy of more than just a whisper of praise. He deserves our full hearts, our full voices, our full passion.
And here’s the best part: we have reason to praise.
Even in the midst of life’s storms, we can find a reason to praise God. This isn’t about ignoring our pain or pretending everything is okay. It’s about recognizing that even in the hardest times, God is still good. He is still faithful. Songs like “Praise You in This Storm” capture that sentiment so beautifully, reminding us that praise doesn’t depend on our circumstances; it’s rooted in the unchanging nature of God.
We praise because He is worthy. We praise because He has saved us, redeemed us, and called us His own. We praise because His love never fails, and His mercies are new every morning. We praise because, no matter what life throws our way, God is always deserving of the highest honor and the loudest celebration.
But here’s the question: Do we praise? Is praise woven into the fabric of our daily lives, or is it something we reserve for Sunday mornings? Do we celebrate the goodness of God with the same passion that we bring to a football game or a concert?
Football season is in full swing, and every weekend, stadiums are packed with fans who shout, scream, and cheer with all their might. Their passion is undeniable. They’re invested. They’re loud. And they’re unashamed. What would happen if we, as followers of Christ, praised God with that same kind of intensity?
Psalm 150 is the ultimate fight song for the believer. It’s our anthem, our rallying cry. Just like fans cheer for their team, we are called to lift our voices in praise for the One who has already won the victory. It’s time to get loud for God. It’s time to let our praise be heard.
So, as you go about your week, I encourage you to take some time to turn up the volume on your praise. Sing in the car. Dance in your living room. Shout for joy in your prayers. Let your heart overflow with gratitude for all that God has done. You were made for this. You were created to praise.
And remember, this isn’t just about noise for noise’s sake. This is about directing our hearts and our voices toward the One who is worthy. It’s about celebrating the goodness of God in every season of life. It’s about letting our praise be a reflection of the joy, hope, and peace we have in Christ.
So, let everything that has breath praise the Lord—and that includes you. Let’s get loud, excited, and rowdy for the One who deserves it all!
