Last night Reba and Lisa had the privilege of hanging out with the wonderful people of Temple Baptist in Cullman, Alabama. Reba met with the college and career age for dinner to talk about the opportunities that are available for them to have a global impact. Then she shared with the entire congregation that evening about the crisis for women around the world and how they can make an impact.
For a believer there is a always a two-fold reaction to any evil — heartbreak over the devastation of sin and excitement that we serve a God who is greater than any stronghold. When you put these two together you have God’s people ready and willing to be a part of the solution.
At the end of service, the pastor asked for the ushers to grab the offering baskets because he felt led to take an offering for Dare for More. On a Wednesday night, the people of Temple gave over $4800.00. We were all just blown away at the movement of the Lord among His people.
We set up a small table with purses made by women in the Dominican Republic who have been rescued from trafficking or who are no longer a target for traffickers because of the job they have found. Women swarmed the table after we dismissed buying every purse we had and wanting more.
Last night was a huge win for God’s kingdom. Women and little girls in the DR won because they are safe and continue to earn a living with respect and dignity. The ministries that serve them in the DR won because they can continue to provide much needed resources and the gospel to people who are in desperate need. Dare for More won because we can continue to help women and girls in need in the USA and around the world. And Temple Baptist won because their people invested in eternity and they will continue to draw dividends on this investment forever.
As Reba closed the session last night, she made this statement,” God does not need us to rescue women, to do his kingdom work or to share the gospel — He could speak and all these things would be accomplished. But he has chosen to use us, to allow us to be a part of the miracle. What a privilege!”
